Trinity

"About last night," Ana chews.

I know what comes next.

"I don't know why it happened, but it just did. You know I can't be with a man right now." Ana's afraid of men like I'm afraid of white Crown Victorias or snakes. Everyone's got their breaking point, I guess.

I just try to concentrate on the road, but I'm smiling. I know I am.

"Last night should never have happened."

Those are the only words she says. It's pointless. Anything else would just get sucked out into the hugeness of the desert, spreading out and getting thinner and fainter as it reaches the edges of the map.
